There is a drive within me that keeps inspiring me to move. I dance because when I am not dancing my life is dull and I am disconnected from myself. I come to know myself better as an individual through creating different ways for my body to express what is on my mind. Dance for me is a way to show the world my vantage point of life. When I dance, my mind and body are connected as one, which allows me to think clearly and feel complete. Dance teaches me patience and keeps me humble. Patience comes with revising and reworking my choreography until it is saying what I want. Humbleness comes with the constant reminder that I can always improve.
I am constantly looking for new ways to move my body. I believe in using both length and strength in movement. Experimenting with the different joints of the body to see what they can do is a source for much of my inspiration. Making interesting shapes with the body that I have never seen before is something that I challenge myself to do as an artist. I dare myself to create movement that I have never seen because then I feel that it is mine. I believe that costumes should be simple because the focus should be the movement, not what the dancer is wearing.
What I aspire to do with dance is to break the assumption that a male and female dancing together implies a romantic relationship. I want to showcase strength of women through equal male and female partnering. I hope to create many of my works using a parallel position to promote safer dancing. I believe in promoting long dance careers through practicing safe technique. The most important aspect that I can contribute to the field of dance is myself. I say this because no two people are ever the same. If I bring my own vantage point to the field of dance, I can create works of art that have yet to be seen by the world.
